Privacy notice

What Alif holds about you, and what it does not.

Draft, 4 October 2026. This notice describes the pilot build. Haseeb reviews it before it is linked from the App Store record.

Who we are

Alif is made by Lito Design Ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom. Lito Design Ltd is the data controller for the app. Contact details are at the foot of the home page.

What the app holds

  • Your email address, used to sign in with a one-time code.
  • Your name, and your child's first name, so the teacher knows who is in the lesson.
  • Lesson bookings: who, when, how long, which book.
  • The page each lesson reached and the teacher's note.
  • Messages between a parent and a teacher, if the parent leaves messaging on.
  • A photo for each person, if you add one.
  • A push-notification token, if you turn reminders on.

What the app does not hold

  • Lesson video or audio. Calls pass through a relay and are not recorded or stored.
  • Location, contacts, calendar or anything else on your phone.
  • Advertising identifiers. There is no ad or analytics SDK in the app.

Children

The app is used by children, so we follow the ICO Age Appropriate Design Code as the design brief. A parent holds the account; the child uses a locked lesson screen inside it. We collect the minimum the lesson needs, we do not profile, and we do not use streaks, badges or other nudges aimed at children. Photos of children are visible only to the teacher the family has a lesson with, through time-limited links, never on a public address.

Who processes it for us

  • Supabase hosts the database and sign-in.
  • LiveKit relays the video call.
  • Apple and Google deliver push notifications and app builds.

Your choices

  • Turn messaging and reminders off in Settings at any time.
  • Remove a photo at any time.
  • Ask for your account and its data to be deleted by writing to the contact address. We do it within 30 days.

Changes

We update this page when the app changes what it collects. The date at the top moves when we do.
